Sylvania 4130M Any Thoughts?
A fellow wants to sell a Sylvania 4130M for $90.00. It has raster and good sound. Is this reasonable and are there any thoughts on maintaining and/or restoring this set? The cabinet is in nice shape. Any input would be appreciated.

It's not a terrible price if you like the set, and if it has sound and raster then the main parts are good at least.

I have a couple of pics as well. I hope to get the price down a tad more. Thanks

What, no HaloLight?

I like the cabinet and control layout of that set. Much better than today's flat screens which, unfortunately (!), look almost exactly alike from one set to another. The only way to make a flat screen look unique, IMHO, is to put it on or in a stand or cabinet.

Pre HaloLight? That's probably a rare one.

I understand it is a 1950 model...not sure when the halo light was produced.

I believe they were introduced in 1951. Here's an ad for them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA_JX5knDTY
Yours is a first generation rectangular made only for about one year. You can tell by the very flat sides on the picture tube. Later CRTs had more of a curve to them. |

![]() Why does that one pic of it with the partial raster look like the bottom of it is slanted? Did someone put the yoke in crooked? Or is there some weird scan stuff going on?

I'd vote for a crooked yoke. The only thing I could think of that would produce a slanted raster would be a shorted yoke and then the raster would be trapezoidal in shape

Sorry I can't tell why the raster is slanted, as I haven't bought it (yet). Haven't made up my mind to the price. Thanks

By the way, bandersen, I really learn a lot from your videos. They are a wealth of information and I can't get enough of them. Thanks

It has an odd-ball tuner and a strange HV doubler circuit using 5642s. It didn't show them on the tube location chart. It's probably 50 years since I seen one. Some of the early Sylvania's have strange design in the various circuits, compared to other makes. |

I appreciate your input on this. At $40.00 and with your experience with these sets, I suppose I won't buy it. Thank You!
