Looking for info on an RCA PFR100WRC - Videokarma.org TV - Video

Hi everyone.

It's nice to see others out there who make an effort to keep old tech running. I sometimes get the same feeling the dinosaurs probably had.

My current project is for a friend who has an RCA PFR100WRC Front Projection set.

I have found a service manual online for an RCA PFR100 and was wondering if that manual covers the "WRC" models as well. Thought I'd check before ordering the PDF.

I have tried to source out info on the model number variations, but there is little info out there, as I am sure everyone here has experienced.

The issue he is having is that the set blows the main fuse after a few seconds. He sometimes sees a slight "flick" on the screen before the fuse pops. Prior to problem the set worked perfectly. I'm thinking bad caps as a starting point.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

p.s. The PDF manual I am looking at buying is from servicemanuals.net and is called "Technical Familiarization". The demo 1st page has a stamp on it that says Bruno-NY Training Center, 849 Harrison Ave., Kearny, NJ, 07032

Almost all RCA sets have a chassis number, find it & search.
Format is usually CTC###-. The info you found is probably
for training. Nice to have but not at all complete.
Post pics of the set & the chassis. That way we can see what you have
& if its an RCA or Hitachi build.

OK, the guy got back from camping and sent some pics.
I hope they will get me to a proper set of schematics and info.

It is now obvious that it is a Hitachi product.

I found a manual at Sams Technical publishing for the PFR100. It's Sams number is 142358.

Never owned a projection tv. It's interesting that 1 flyback powers all 3 picture tubes.

So is the Sams Tech Manual a good buy to do the service work on this TV?

I have never purchased an OEM service manual from them, and this is going to be around 50 bucks US, so I'd like to make sure it will get the job done.

I don't know that I've ever seen a Sams for a PJ set. If they do have one it should be pretty good. Certainly worth giving it a first try.

The Sams listed is for a PHOTOCOPY of the RCA OEM manual.
It is NOT a Sams manual. So if they do a bad job of copying
it may be a bitch to use.
Second problem is the condition of the set. Even if you get it
going I can bet my life one if not all 3 CRT's are bad.

As far as the fuse goes there are probably 2 glass fuses in it.
One is the line fuse typically 4 amp +. Near the line cord as a
rule. Second one is apx 2 amps. That is for the HV. If that
blows its usually a yoke, horz output and/or the HV transformer.

The set was running up until 2 years ago.

It has been in storage for a year and a half when the guy moved here and had to store it until he could get it here.

He said the quality was great right up until it suddenly started blowing fuse F4.

I will be checking the items you mentioned though.
