The Wiz Live
Did anyone watch it?
I didn't try to be eagle-eyed about fluffs; I didn't notice any. I recorded it both off the satellite and off the air (I bought an off-air module for the DISH receiver). I haven't had a chance to go back and compare video quality. The staging and choreography was very professional, as you would expect from a New York crew. The Munchkin costumes seemed to be borrowed from Alice in Wonderland book illustrations(?). I think I have only seen pieces of the Wiz movie, so I am not sure if they used the same songs or changed some things. Does anyone know? The music showcases the singers well, but few of the songs are the kind you can end up humming afterwards (a complaint of mine with many newer musicals compared to the 40s and 50s). Sound quality was good, as it was for Peter Pan Live last year, except that in an early musical scene, the singer's positioning seemed to wander from the center channel leftward and back. They seem to have permanently fixed the noise problems they had two years ago in The Sound of Music Live. Any thoughts? |

I heard it was 3 hours long and i guess the modern alternative to the original?
Call me old fashioned but i haven't the time after seeing preview clips. I guess it's a little too hip hoppy for me.
Like everybody, i love the 1939 wizard of oz with the amazingly beautiful in every way judy garland

They shouldn't have bothered. I hope they don't think they can do better than the original.
