ARGHHH!!! What happened to my CTC-9 !?
I hate to say this but guess I should..
Well... My CTC-9 Latham yesterday morning met it's demise with unfavorable fate!!!! So As you know late last year I made a trip down to LA to pick up this beauty and drug it home and started the restoration process. The CRT was soft but woke up after a while. It still had alot of purity issues that i couldnt resolve. It is a beauty and looks identical to Zenith26kc20's CTC-9. Well long story short, we had a roof leak problem that I was not aware of and the ceiling caved in right over the set busting off the neck of the 21AXP22 CRT! The back was off and wet drywall and insulation covered the set. Well I cleaned it up and wiped and oiled the cabinet when woke up to find this. I havent been on here much the last few months, busy with family and work and other stuff and haven't had much time to tinker with my set either, but now im just saddened about this. Just thought i'd get it off my chest.

Oops, my bad, i is a CYP.. Sorry, i was thinking of my other set and moderate frustration. Everything is still there and ok, just a busted neck and the socket got chipped but it's okay.

"Needle in the haystack" i'm sure...
At least the cabinet is not damaged and cleaned up well.

It could've been worse, like a CTC5 with a 21AXP22. You can always use an FB in that set for now.

Well I've got a spare 21FBP/FJP sitting in my garage that I'd offer you if you were in driving distance of me. I believe that the later round tubes can work as substitutes (with some modification to the set), and a number of spares have turned up at estate sales this summer so it may not be hard to get a later tube for cheap to use untill a CYP shows up, then keep as a spare.
Hope your set burned through it's next few decades of bad luck in this incident. Some times that jerk murphy hangs around a set and keeps quoting his law... Tom C. |

Sorry to hear this. I'm sure you can find a replacement CRT eventually, or at least another set to steal one from. If I were in your shoe's I'd be even more freaking out about the roof damage. I always get stressed out over big unplanned projects.

Really sorry to hear that. I worry about mine just working on it but to have Mother Nature get it. What a disaster!

Yeah, guess that re roofing project went a year too long. I went up and repaired the culprit already, cedar shake shingles are horrible.

That's an unfortunate event, but a 21CYP22 or 21FBP22 should be easier to find than if it had been a 21AXP22. If I hear of anything available in this area, I will let you know.

Sorry to hear, Shawn.... I know the feeling. At least you can know that you didn't do it carelessly. I did something worse about 3 months ago. My mint-condition Honda VF1000R motorcycle, which I've had for years, needed a new fuel filter, which is under the gas tank. I carefully removed the tank, and balanced it on the seat, since I was too lazy to undo the vapor hoses, etc to lay the tank safely on a pad on the ground. Well, it fell :-(....... That bike is so rare, that to find a tank with original mint-condion paint, is a little costly http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT . I was going to have it fixed, but I couldn't get the correct decals, and fakes are $300. Long story short, I lucked out, and got one in very nice shape on eBay with a Buy-It-Now 2 weeks ago for a very good price, and it's all good. But I still am mad at myself for that!
I wish you the best in getting another tube for it, and I have confidence that you will. Charles

Yep, this stuff has probably happened to all of us. I'm working on a 630ts now, that I got in really good condition (with all knobs, glass, top, and back) - a few months ago I had it precariously balanced on the arm of a sofa, my cat jumped on it, knocked it on the floor, and the glass broke.
