Interesting. I wonder what you plug it into? It is an octal plug, definitely not an inline device like a normal brightener. Maybe into a tube tester set for a specific tube type listed in its instructions.

The instructions state that the plug is to be inserted in a 5U4 socket. Don't remember if it worked very well.

Somwhere here I have a "99-electronics projects" book that details how to make one of those. Spring loaded switches, I recall. Very primative use of AC to remove H-K shorts.

Yes, the switches were spring return. A friend had one.
