Magnavox help!~!~! - Videokarma.org TV - Video

Once I am able to get this console TV out of the current owner's basement, I will own this TV. It is a Magnavox Videomatic Solid State console TV. I'm sure this is the model number, but it's hard to tell: TC 95-07 T99 502, and I know it's not the serial number. Anybody have anything to say about this TV? It seems to work pretty well! Also, I couldn't find the date of manufacture on the back. Any idea of when this TV was from??

It's most likely a T995 chassis from the mid-to-late '70's. If it is a T995, it will use a delta gun CRT and an upright modular chassis that folds down for service.

If it's not a T995, it could be a newer T815; or, even a T809. These sets came out around '79 and stayed in production until around '83. These sets were also modular; but, used an inline gun CRT. The T809 chassis sets loved to eat power supplies and did not use a power transformer. Fortunately, the T809 chassis was not used in too many 25" sets. Instead, the T809 was mainly used in 19" sets.

Both the T995 (delta gun) and T815 (inline gun) used a power transformer and were probably the best two solid state chassis that Magnavox made.

There's a slight chance that your set could be a T979 (first solid state color Magnavox chassis) or a T989; but, this set looks newer than that. If it's a T979 or 989, it will be from the '72-'74 period.

If the CRT is in good shape and everything else is right, it should give you a great picture.

I have a Magnavox console with a T995-02 chassis, touch tune with osd, 25vcxp22 crt, manufactured June 1977.

my magnavox bicentennial has that same chassis and crt.very good sets,possibly the best delta gun consoles they made.the crts are very sharp and mine has the star system tuning.thats a great find!

Okay, I kinda figured it was from the mid to late 70s. I can't wait to get rid of my plain 1985 RCA console to make room for this one. Was I right, was that considered the model number? It appears that the chassis number is within the model. I really want to hook up my Atari to this thing and go back in time.

What's the function of the rectangular button to the left of the power switch (the one that turns blue when you press it)?

That is what Magnavox called "videomatic". It switches in internal factory preset controls for color, tint, etc. Most brands of TV's had such a button and it was called various names, according to the manufacturer. Magnavox called it "videomatic", RCA called it "AccuMatic", Zenith called it "chromatic", Philco called it "philcomatic", etc. When this button is engaged, the front panel controls have little, or no effect on the picture. In some TV's, there is a photocell that is also engaged when this button is on. It's purpose is to adjust the picture brightness according to room lighting.

The set was made before Philips took over, if I have my facts correct. The easy trick is that the logo reads Magnavox instead of MAGNAVOX.

We had a lot of these in our local schools, 25" table wood (or woodgrain) table models. I was never very excited by them back then, but don't remember there being many problems.

If you need any modules, make sure and post the number. I have a box of them NOS, not sure which models they fit, though.

Not too long ago, my local Salvation Army thrift store had a table model version of this set. A couple days later when I decided to go back and grab it, it was already sold.

Thanks! 'V-MATIC', that was it. As a child, I was fascinated by the shutter mechanism inside the button (I was easily amused).

NICE set Mark! Email me pix when you have it set-up. My friend still is using the 79 Magnavox Console I gave him. Watched a movie on it Friday and the picture is still fantastic. I told him when it "dies" he is gonna have to get rid of it himself. That thing was tough getting up to a 2nd story apartment. (it weighed a TON)!
