Early 1970's RCA on Ebay

The seller looks pretty legitimate. He's from North Carolina and prefers local pick-up only. I thought one of you guys would be interested in saving it. (I bet it works better than my 1970's XL-100)

This is a '77-'78 model and uses the flat modular chassis that came out after the upright chassis was phased out. If I had a choice, I'd hold out for one of the older upright chassis RCA's.

say what you will, but I have one of them it took several 300v or 150V single side surges from a faulty power line transformer for several months on and off and it still wont give up entirely it still powers up but a resistor took the brunt of it and melted it to a red blob it made it through my father who watched tv 24/7 from 1977 to 1994 until I inherited it and he forced it to work into the night capturing on air channels out of Detroit that ran all night from 1977 to 1991 until cable came to his house. He wore the finish off from the steel near the internal tuner changer under that XL-100 bezel I think they are nearly bullet proof if any tv makes it through him LOL!

That model was likely from 1979/80. I think it was the first of very cheaply made sets by RCA. I know flybacks go out in those alot. I do like the little RCA logo being a metal knob to open the tuner adjustments.
If you like the cabinet it is a great deal in every way. They did have good pictures when working properly and are overall reliable sets. That one likely had a flyback already that may have included modifications to make it last longer?

My grandmother has a 1979 RCA XL-100. Of course the audio is messed up and the picture is completely out of focus. However, it's not a console set (Its screen is only 13") so it looks nothing like the set on Ebay. Great for those small ledges in the basement. Come to think of it, it's never had that good of reception being in the basement and all.

It's in Sams 1807-2, which indicates that the chassis is a CTC86C. That would be the flat modular chassis with delta gun CRT. They still weren't bad sets; but, those late '70's RCA picture tubes often didn't hold up well and these sets could exhibit some strange power supply and horizontal sweep problems. From the pictures, it looks like this set still has a decent picture and chances are good that the CRT has been replaced. I have the 19" version of this set with electronic tuning and it's CRT got replaced when it was less than a year old. And, I've had many RCA consoles that were made between '77-'80 that had weak and/or shorted CRT's.
I think the RCA's with the flyback issues were the CTC99/101/108, etc. RCA tried to cut cost by not using enough diodes for the HV rectifier inside the transformer and they failed quickly. The replacement transformers were built better and held up longer.
