Nice looking old RCA - some of my all time favorite designs were the 70's vintage RCA table top sets.

Since you leave in Chicago land, surely there is at least one tv repair shop in your vicinity who can help you with this set - I know they are a dying breed but there should be a few left - and there are a bunch of VK folks who live near you, maybe one of them could drop by and have a look at the set.

If you lived near so. Illinois I would gladly give you a working '78 XL100. I am over ran with sets right now and really need to thin the herd. I call this set my Magnum P.I. set because Thomas Magnum watches a set just like this one in his apartment at Robin Masters estate.

Also got a 78ish ChromaColorII I would gladly donate.

AFT = Automatic Fine Tuning and is engaged when the button is pushed "in". It helps to keep the tuner locked on to the correct frequency.

ACM = AccuMatic. This button is a preset color and tint adjustment. When you press in this button, the controls for color, tint, etc. will have limited or no range. The adjustments for the ACM switch are located on the back of the set. Most manufacturers had such a switch on their sets to alternate between the front panel color controls and a group of factory preset color controls. It was mainly just a gimmick to run the price up.

There are many things that could be causing your problem. Could be the high voltage tripler, a bad capacitor, open resistor in the power supply or deflection circuit. Maybe someone will chime in and agree to help repair your set, which would probably be the best thing since you don't have much experience with TV repair or high voltage. You might get lucky and still be able to find a TV shop that can repair it; but, finding shops who are willing to work on a TV this old are few and far between.

Thanks anyway. But that is a way too long of a drive for me (like 6 and 1/2 hours). Still, don't give up on selling it. My grandmother, if you've read some of my posts, owns a 1979 XL-100, and I haven't given up on finding someone to repair it. These sets are really worth saving, especially if they work correctly.

Anyone, feel free to comment on here or under the "comments" section on Youtube itself. I'm trying to find a repairman for my TV since I can't fix most of its problems on my own.

Did the seller say that the set worked? I have one simular to it. It's a 17in. hotel motel model with a AM-FM radio built in. I don't remember if thats the model with the thermistor behind the chassis. After a long time they crumble. Now's the time to pull the back off and look inside.

The seller said that it worked. "Worked" in my opinion means all knobs, sound, and picture are functioning properly. Obviously, he didn't think so.

Over the years, a number of people have brought stuff by for me to possibly buy and many of these sellers claim that their junk works just fine. Then, I'll plug it up to see that it does not work fine and the sellers usually make up excuses like "there must be something wrong with your cable" or "it worked fine at the house". Usually, people like this are only after your money and the only reason they say it works is because they hope you'll take their word for it and buy the item without testing it.

It probably worked when they shipped it. I think it's a CTC72, CA 1971/72. I think they made model for a few more years. I have the schematic booj and report back. Dave.

I wanted to believe the seller because he seemed like a legitimate family man. He is married with five kids and even gave me a 1999 Sharp TV absolutely free along with the RCA XL-100.

In spite of this, I really am looking for a repairman in the Chicagoland area whom I can pay a reasonable price to fix my set. I know they are a lot of them here, so all I'm asking is that someone chime in and talk to me. I've been told that the voltage tripler needs to be replaced, something I really don't think I can do on my own.

No one can really say for absolute certain what needs replaced until someone takes the back off and takes a look. It could be something very simple.

That's why I'm almost desperately trying to find someone on here who lives in the suburbs of Chicago to take a look at the set and see what's wrong. As I said before in my previous posts, I'm willing to pay them a reasonable price if they're willing to take the time to do any necessary repairs.
