1971 RCA Color TV Catalog

I first met Dwight back in January 2003 when I first drove out to Detroit to pick up a TV I bought from him on ebay. I'll never forget when he offered me a absolutely mint "Terano" complete with the manuals (on page 27) but neither of us had the space at the time and sadly it was parted out by both of us when I went up there to pick up the other TV. Looking back, that was a bad move on my part and I wish I could turn the clock back and save it. I guess the good news is, the parts from the CTC-39 chassis that it had were put to use as its helped fix numerous sets over the years and I still have the CRT. I'd also love to find a Trans Vista portable like the Argosy model EP-506 on page 30. I have the '73 XL-100 version of this set ('73 was also the first year for the XL-100), but to find the early production Trans Vista would really be a unique set to have. I've never seen one.

The Accolade looks a lot like that RCA color remote set my parents had with the mechanical "tuning fork" remote. I don't think we ever put two and two together on that remote.

Thanks for posting this, as I was looking for something similar just yesterday. The reason was that I was trying to find a reference to what was our first full-size color set, which we bought somewhere around 1971 to 1973 (memory fails me, but I think it was later rather than earlier in that range).

It was a bottom of the line RCA floor model, with a woodgrained metal cabinet and screw-in legs. I don't see the exact model here, but the "Kelland" comes close. The speaker area (which presumably tilts out to give access to some of the controls) looks identical. I think ours had a silver overlay behind the tuning knobs but I may be mistaken. However, it did not have built-in antennas, and it had a rocker switch to turn it on and off if you were using the instant-on capability, which I do not see here. Could this have been a 1972 model?

The television apparatus is so very fine. I wish I could shrink himself provides for very small, and to live in the list!

Thank You for these brochures. I remember so clearly when we had our "Calhoun" console delivered my father was very concerned that the front of the TV said New Vista Color and not AccuColor. I remember him calling the dealer and they explained something to him back then that put him at ease. This brochure better explains it to me. I was 8 yrs old back then and can tell this was a defining moment in my life as a tv nut!

I would have remembered that too. What happened to the set?

I thought RCA never used tuning forks?

It has been a long time but I remember as a child I was very impressed by it but I am thinking there were some detail differences on the front of the cabinet. The control panel looked the same but was solid-state inside. Is there a '72 catalog viewable anywhere?

The next catalog I have is for '73. Unfortunately I don't have too much RCA literature.

The "Calhoun" lasted many years and was replaced with an RCA Colortrak 2000 Monitor Style TV. That RCA 2000 never broke in its many years of service. Still in the house somewhere!
