New Harvest: Packard Bell 98D7, 23001 MHW
Picked this up in Hollywood last night. It was used in the set of an older independent film and the set designer was letting it go.
The remote tuner control is a trip, theres allot about this set that looks ahead of its time. The tubes were removed for testing and they came in a bag with the set. So far the vertical output is cracked and the damper has an open filament. My dad worked for Teledyne (who sams lists as the manufacture of this set) and often speaks of the 'saw mill out back' where they made the cabinets. Also my crt tester came yesterday (Sencore CR31) I tested the crt in this set and the emissions show ok but I cant get it to come up on the GUN BALANCE measurement/setup at all. Im guessing this is cutoff..? Im still going to get this set going and see how it looks. I also check the crt in my Sears Silvertone that has a dim picture and it has hardly any emissions at all. Im trying to figure out if I should rejuvenate or use the restore function first. I did check a good crt and it checked ok. |

Try cooking the heaters on 8v overnight. This most likely will help with cutoff. This is usually the sign of a CRT that's been sitting unused for 10 years or more from my experience. The cutoff should come up. If not you may have a weak tube. How's the emission??

If you have no cutoff then I can bet you have a dim CRT, I believe that cutoff refers to grid emission like you said, in my expeirence, when you have low to cutoff, the CRT will appear dim, out of focus and any added brightness blurs the whites and the highlights of whatever is on the screen and will mar over everything around it.
Basically yes cutoff changes the readings of the emission test when you view the emission, dont let it fool you. You will not get an accurate reading unless you can achieve cutoff.
