Exposing my TVs
I don't know if you guys heard anything about, but in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina ( where I live, foi coincidence ) massive floods happened on the last weeks on some cities, due to an enormous amount of raining. Thousands of people lost their homes and some 114 people died. As I did some checking, the international media did covered the whole tragedy, so maybe you guys heard something.
The city where I live in was one of the lucky ones that didn't suffered with this event. The local gym in my neighborod sponsored a charity event on behalf of the victims yesterday ( December, 13 ), on which people could donate food and clothes. To attract more people, there was a band playing and local artists put for sale, with the income also going to the victims, their works of sculputure and painting. They asked me to put some of my TVs in exposition as well ( not for sale, just as display to attract the curiosity of the people ). Indeed, people were curious. Older people remembered the "old days" when they had to go to the roof to adjust the antenna and fight against often poor reception. The new people looked somewhat puzzled at the old televisions. What I found kind of bizarre is that the item that attracted most attention was the early 60's remote control... it seemed, in my evaluation, that people find it really hard to believe that there already were TV sets equipped with wireless remote in 1963!!! The wife of a teacher of History said that when young kids see a long-playing record today, they don't have a single clue to what it really is.

I'm afraid news of the flooding didn't reach my ears, either. The media is wasting its time on less important things right now.
Nice display...clean sets. I've done some things like that & it's great fun to hear the stories. It seems nobody can walk past without relating something interesting. It can also work to get you leads for new finds.

Didn't hear of it in Tennessee, either, but then it IS Tennessee...But that was a VERY nice thing you did w/yr sets...Who knows ? Maybe you won a "convert" or 2 to our little hobby, & maybe, just maybe, another neat old set or 2 will get saved from oblivion because of yr efforts.
