Zenith Porthole Restoration

Great looking Zenith Porthole, It's nice to see all 3 components restored. I wonder why Zenith didn't put (hidden) casters on these heavy entertainment cabinets? They're as heavy as Jukeboxes or Pianos. Any dreaded rubber wire in this set? I restored a 1946 Zenith Radio/Record Player that was loaded with the brittle, crumbling stuff.

Hi Jim;

No...no rubber wire in this set, at least none that was crumbling and brittle. I recall restoring a 1941 Philco Radio/Phono combo unit that was loaded with the darned rubber covered wire. All you had to do was breath too heavy near it and the insulation would fall off.

What a job! Wow........I have the exact same model in my living room. I only got the radio / phono restored. The TV looked like a lot to take on ....... maybe one of these years! Nice to see your TV working. You did a great restoration!
