Anyone owning proffesional video equypment? (U-Matic, Betacam and maybe S-V.H.S.). How much did you payed for it and how much the repairing cost?

Well let's see, about 10 years ago I bought two Sony VO2600 (I think) umatic decks for $30. One had a good head, and bad transport, and the other good transport and a bad head. A little switcharoo and I had a good working unit. I can't remember what happened to the bad one. I still have the good one stashed in the back bedroom and used it just 4 months ago to do some transfers to DV. I bought a non working Ampex VR-6000 1 inch black and white reel to reel deck in 2002 for $25 on ebay. I drove from the bay area, to San Diego to pick it up. It had some bad diodes in the power suppy which, after replacing, brought the deck to life. I transferred some old reels to DV and just recently sold it on ebay for $50 to another video collector who is en route to come pick it up.

I've had a hand full of Sony Super-Beta decks over the years... Numerous VHS machines, some vintage consumer panasonic video cameras... I'm good friends with a gentleman in San Francisco who has two Ampex AVR-3 quad machines in his garage. He operates a video transfer service with them to transfer quad to DV *link to business deleted by moderator*

I have a U-Matic deck I got offa Ebay for practically nothing..No tape, so I never fired it up...Sucker's a REAL boatanchor...

I have a Sony BVU-200B broadcast quality uMatic, and a few Sony PVM series monitors... Nothing exciting though. I also have a JVC CR-8500U (also broacast quality, I think), which is sitting in the barn. Probably free to good home.

I have two Sony Av3600 reel to reel video recorders. I was looking for a working Umatic machine a while back for doing some transfers and they seemed to go for pretty good money on Da Bay with shipping.

I need to find some 5" video reels to test my 3600's.

I have a VO 9850 3/4"SP Deck, a JVC CR-850 3/4" deck, a Panasonic DS-555 SVHS deck, a Sony UVW 1600 BetacamSP deck, as well as quite a large number of broadcast monitors from Sony, Conrac, and even an RCA 3x monitor.

A couple years ago a friend of mine was trying to give away a box of UMatic tapes; I took them but mentioned that I had no way to play them. The next thing I know, he shows up with a Sony VO5600. It works, has some noise in the transport mechanism which I should check out. Later I found some Betacam tapes, which I thought could be played on a regular Beta machine. (I never said I was smart!) One of these days I'll pick one up. This is one reason a big hamfest is great-lots of stuff like that shows up. (that's where most of the above came from)

I also have a JVC ENG camera that is pristine, save for a broken mike holder...I'd LOVE to get a tripod for it, but I don't wanna shell out the $100-150 it'll cost for a broken down TV-station cast-off...

i have a mid 70s JVC cr-6060e u-matic wooden top loader i got about 10 years ago from a local tv station for free, it worked, actually a low hour machine... but they no longer had any use for it and they were going to scrap it...

I got one of those big top loading Sony 200 Umatic edit decks from the first station I worked at. I hauled that thing all over the country with me for a while. When I moved from San Francisco to Denver I finally gave it away along with the cables I made up to use it on consumer gear. For a while it was a usefull tool, but once the last 3/4" decks left the stations it was just a boat anchor. I really liked it, but it sure was big and heavy.

Definitely! My RCA Lyceum TVs are commercial video equipment! Oh, also my Pioneer CLD-V2800 Laserdisc player is industrial grade.

You can use Betacam tapes for recording on home betamax machines (bulk-erase them and then you just have to put tape over the record-protect tab) but yes as you have found out the way the signal is encoded on the tape is different with betacam.

I have some U-matic cassettes and players/recorders but too often the tapes seem to have the sticky/shed syndrome.

2 DVC Pro, 1 DVC Pro50, 2 DVcam,Several Panasonic 7750
S Vhs (half in Pal), One Ntsc digital Betacam, One Pal Digital
Betacam, One Betacam SP Pal, Couple of Sony BVM Monitors,
Merlin Standard Converter, Pal & Ntsc Tektronix sync Generators, Pal & NTSC Waveforfm and Vector Scopes and
a bunch of other stuff and accesseries. dont have the Sony 2000 one inch anymore
All part of my home business.
