Zenith 3-lead ceramic cap

I finally got a chance to look into the Zenith set I carried home (see thread "I think I'm crazy). The only bad looking thing under the chassis is a three lead ceramic cap that has a big crack, and doesn't look good. The problem is, I don't have a schematic, and don't know the value of the cap, or how to connect the replacement (I assume I would have to use two caps). The numbers are worn, but I can make out 22-___ on one side and 2X5I on the other. There are two more three lead caps in the set, but they are a differnt color (white instead of brown) and have the value of 2X.001. The cap is near the horizontal Osc. tube if it helps.
I can provide a photo if it will help.

The set is a chassis 4B38Z, run 124A.

Max,

Your set has a 14B38Z chassis (1971). Those caps are part of the horizontal phase detector circuit. The caps that read "2X51" mean a combination of two 51 pF capacitors, both sharring a common lead. The other "2X.001" is two .001 uF caps with common lead. (Both caps are 500 volt). You can take two new caps, twist two ends together to make a 3 pin cap. Just make sure that the twisted leads on the two new caps is in the same spot as the middle lead on the original cap when you go solder it in.
As for the zenith parts numbers that got smeared, the .001 combo cap is a 22-21 and the 51 pF is a 22-25

You shouldnt have any problems getting that to work out.

Sorry, but I'm bad at converting stuff like this.
Also, do you know what voltage they run at, the ones I have are 500V, which seems plenty.

Hi Max,

those values for the phase detector are critical and should be the same. The .0047's will cause the picture not to lock properly. The original caps are rated at 500volt.

I was wondering if anybody has a source for finding 51pF caps. I can't find them anywhere, all I can find are 47pF. I might just see how the TV works with the "suspicous" cap.

A great place to find the parts is Tristate Electronic in Mount Prospect. They are at 200W. Northwest Hwy (Just about 1/4 mile northwest of rt 83) Shouldnt be too far from you. You can call them 847-255-0600. Just tell them you need two 51pF disk caps (or two .001 uF disk caps) atleast 500 Volts. They are cheap. Probably cost $1 for the two.
You could probably call local TV shops. Sometimes they like to help out, other times they tell you to throw the TV away and hang up.......Typical chicago TV shop.
