Douglas TV with chairside remote

Came across this on another board.

Anyone ever heard of Douglas? It's a new one on me, and the only other chairside remote I can think of is the Predicta Penthouse(?)

I think the pictures were taken with a cellphone...

I wonder if the remote is still there. Scott 800B radios had a wired remote as an optional accessory, but none of the Scott fanatics that I know has ever laid eyes on one. Kind of a gimmick, IMHO. (If it was such a great idea, wouldn't every manufacturer have offered them?)

I've seen a couple of the chairside remotes, but never seen the TV head in a cabinet. the late collector Gary Hough had the ones I saw, and I believe he said that the TV chasses were built-ins. One of those remotes I wound up getting, after it had passed through a few hands... I sold it on eBay to another collector who just wanted the parts. The cabinet was totally shot.

Interesting set, and the only old "Douglas" brand set in Sam's Photofacts.

I have an old copy of Popular Mechanics with a shot of that in their "Whats New in Electronics" page.

I'll scan it next week when I'm back in the office.
