![]() Man, that's just insane, I've noticed Pilots going for crazy amounts too lately but not this much! The last sensible bid was $127, wonder if "Baytipo" really expected it to go for that much or if he was caught of guard by the other guy placing a Nuke bid also? I would look for it to be relisted soon... Last edited by Eric H; 01-21-2008 at 08:18 PM. |

And expect to see half a dozen VT-71s listed next week, saying, "The last one sold for $565!!!"
Early Sunday morning, I got a phone call from my sister-in-law who was working an estate sale near DC. She told me the price and gasped breathlessly, "The last one sold for $800!" I gently explained that the highest known eBay sale price is not necessarily a reasonable price. Plus, I would have had to crate & freight it across North America -- making this one not a good deal for me. I told her to keep looking, though :-) Phil Nelson |

Amen, brother! The last one of those I sold for $5 (parts set) on epay (pre AK). I wouldn't mind having one of those 7" sets that was complete; but, not for that much!

That set does look like it is in excellent physical condition. No wear on the panel by the knobs, even.

What I hate about that Bay area listing is there's no picture. If you sell anything there ought to be some pictures. Otherwise it's just an opinion as to what kind of shape it's in...and the opinion isn't yours.

ChrisW6ATV makes a good point: That eBay one DOES have virtually no finger wear on the front panel, and it looks just about new old stock due to that. But I agree with everybody that $565 is out of line. Either it's a shill job, or someone just HAD TO HAVE one with the perfect front panel. It's just as how small details of "virginity" radically affect collectible transistor radios, or even small Sony portables TVs from the 60s... You can see two of them in identical shape on eBay; one sells for 5-10 times more because it has the original box & packaging. A couple of years ago in Reno, I saw two PERFECT 1976 Cadillac Eldorado connvertibles at the Silver Auction. Both were truly museum-quality perfect and had under 5K original miles. One sold for $20K, the other for $35K. Only difference was that the $35K one still had the GM clear plastic wrapping on the leather seats, and the floor mats still boxed in the trunk. (they were both the same identical model code and colors)

Now that the masks are available for these sets, people are getting all excited about them!
![]() Just think what that would have gone for if it had had a new mask in place.
