Nice RCA on eBay

Not sure of the chassis number. I like the cabinet style on this set tho! I do believe the seller is mistaken (or I could be) but I believe this is a 23" set. 25XP22 is a 23" tube. I don't think RCA ever made a 25" tube set, they were all 23". http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...291832047&rd=1

If I were him I wouldn't be putting it up with a reserve unless he wants to keep it a long, long time!
I bought the combo version of that set for 1.00 on ebay just a few weeks ago.
And the buy it now for 700 bucks? wtf! I guess if someone out there wants it bad enough they can go for it...

I hear ya there. He has 3 older sets on eBay right now with a reserve and a HUGE "buy it now" price. I listed the other set in my CTC-9 post in early color television.

There is a 25V" model of the CTC-39 (tube type)...have not seen one in person, only in the service literature (Field Service Guide), but it looks exactly like the CTC-46.

Also I think some people referred to the 23V" tube as a "25 inch" back before the "V" viewable image area designation was used in measuring picture tubes. Some of the early 25V" tubes bore a "26" designation in the type number.

OK, if this ebay seller is (was) a TV service technician, why has he not plugged these sets in? It's not like he wouldn't know how to properly check them out. These sets could theoretically have fried flybacks or yokes or shorted CRT's and we would never know it.

You're right Chad, I think he knows more than he says. They may be dog sets that he is tired of looking at!

I thought that as well! I noticed he revised his description in this listing, but left the other 2 the same. Anyway.... I wondered why he didn't list what the problems were on the sets, and why he put them down as untested. If you were a tech you would know exactely what problems your sets had. I like the sellers sets, and am glad he is offering them for sale, but am turned off by the "vague" nature of his listings. Why even bother stating that you used to service them when new, but sell them as untested? I kinda got the feeling that these were the "old dogs" he had sitting around as well.... Just my 2 cents!

Good grief! Seven hundred dollars used is probably less than this set sold for when it was new in 1967, but still I agree with you--even that is too high for a used set which may or may not work. The seller must need money badly and quickly, perhaps not in that order, if he/she is asking that much as a BIN amount.

Someone mentioned in another post further along in this thread that this TV may not even be working, although if it's a fixer-upper or outright junk I'd at least expect the BIN to be some reasonable amount. Maybe the seller is basing his/her sky-high BIN on the type and condition of the cabinet, which is a fine piece of furniture in its own right...who knows?

Thats a pretty rare set. The GJ767FR is a remote set, had the 7 button remote. It has a ctc30 so its definitly a 67 set. Im surprised he doesnt indictate that its a remote set (the R at the end of any rca model number stands for "remote") Also, you can see the pickup mic on the bottom of the VHF glass. I too dont understand why he couldnt power it up, or atleast say what it is/isnt doing. My favorite is when they say they dont know how to turn it on so its sold as is.

Looks like the UHF knob is gone and a few screws holding the back cover are missing. What ive noticed on rca sets that have had the back on and off a billion times is that the screw holes flare out and are useless. That set probably has many attempted but never corrected issues.

And we were teasing the guy with the GE TV for $150 in detroit!!!!! LOL!!

After doing a little more checking I found he has four pages of electronics stuff up for sale on epay!
Lots of overpriced video equipment, Most likely a clean out from a studio.
I used to get a lot of Sony Umatic (and other) equipment from the schools around here, Never paid a penny for it either! The people were just glad to see it go.
It looks to me like this dude is trying to "cash in" on everything he is selling..
I would forget about buying anything from this guy that is "untested" (Untested=junk)

The best way to cash in on ebay is to start it low and let it go where it wants. I've started things at $1 and sold them for twice what I expected.

When buying, I don't bother watching an auction with a high opening bid, but I sometimes bid higher than I wanted to in the last few seconds.

That's a good question, Chad. I wonder about that myself. At least if he had tried the sets out first, using a Variac or at least the 100-watt bulb in series with the line cord (a former or current TV tech would know about these things--one hopes, anyhow) he would know their exact condition. That way, he could write an accurate description so potential buyers would know exactly what they were getting, and not be taken by surprise.

I asked the seller what his reserve was (he said that he needed to look it up......WTF?????) and inquired why he hadn't checked the set for operation seeing as how he's a tech. He said that if he starts on something then he has to finish it, and if this happens then he'd want more money...........MORE money? Jeez, he wants too much already!!!
