advice on vintage tv buying
I need advice on how much is a fair price for a vintage tv ,I dont want to under bid or over pay . I want to add to my current collection and get a 1946 - 50 era televison with a screen around 7 " I would love to have a RCA Victor 621 ts but im dreaming . I would be happy with any make or model that could get . I am not worried about doing cabinet repairs and would love to do a full recap and other chassis service, and if it is working is not a issue . I don't really want to spend too much because im in BC , Canada and would have to ship a fair distance . which seems it cost around 75.00 ?
how high is a fair price in todays vintage tv market to pay for a set in this kind of shape ? your comment please ,Murray

While a very nice set, the RCA 621 would cost you a mint to purchase, and another one to ship. It is very heavy. Price of purchase would depend on condition, but, could range from 600.00 to 2,000.00, again, depending on condition, and other things.
You could probably purchase a Teletone 7" for around 100-175.00. Shipping would be less due to it being a compact ac-dc run set is alot lighter. Other 7" tv's will vary according to popularity, and rarity. Hope this helps..... Bill Cahill

The little Admiral bakelite 7" sets of 1948-49 are popular, cheap & plentiful. Hardly a week goes by that there's not at least a couple on You-Know-Where.

The seven and eight inch Motorolas are good sets too. They are plentiful, serviceable and often reasonably priced. These sets are fun to restore, perform well and are fairly dependable in frequent use. Search on Ebay for Motorola VT71 and read the forum discussions on restoration of this popular model. It is worth considering.

The 7" sets are generally easy to work on, not much more than a radio. I would look for the Motorola or Admiral, as others have mentioned. One issue-the picture tubes in these sets don't always ship well. It would be nice if you could find one fairly local. These sets were the cheapest you could buy when they were new so they are plentiful.

I might suggest contacting Sonny Clutter at Radiolaguy.com in Camas, WA... He often has very nice sets for sale at fair prices. For much less than shipping, you could buy a set from him and just drive across, avoiding customs fees on shipping too.

Thanks for the info , the 621 ts is so far , just a dream , and is a very heavy television at 60 pounds . But I agree , a motorola or a admiral from this era would be nice , and they are really neat sets . The Hallicrafters sets were also neat .
In my area it is hard to find televisions older than 1954 or 55 because thats when the first stations started . Shipping would be my only practical option when buying a small tv because there is 2 ferries to travel across , just to get to Vancouver which is almost $100 down and then $100 back plus fuel so I would actually save money if it cost 75.00 or more to ship . Thanks for mentioning Radiolaguy , Im going to contact him .
