In defense of flat panel TVs, they are actually pretty affordable now. My family paid about $800 for a typical 27" TV in the 80's when I was a kid. Accounting for inflation, that same money will buy a 42" plasma or LCD TV. It's only the fact that CRT TVs are being sold at slave labor rates that make flat panels look expensive. NTSC CRT TVs are so cheap that they aren't even worth repairing.
