Jeff, What are you doing to make the cable connector break off the set?
I have several RCA models up to a CTC195 and have never, ever had a problem with them breaking.
In the past, I would see ones come in that were broken but they were caused by a cat or something knocking the vcr off the shelf which would pull it off or by the over eager mechanic that uses a wrench to tighten it until it breaks off.
