Be aware that chances are good that your horizontal output probably has an internal damper diode too. Your replacement needs to have one, too.
It doesn't apply to my old, vintage 1985 Symphonic VCR4500, right? It's still running strong after 20 years, never been repaired before, and it probably has outlasted over 10 million newer Funai VCRs by now. This was Funai's first VCR ever made.
