I read the book "Flags of our Fathers", because my dad was in the Navy in the Pacific in WWII. While he was not part of the landing at Iwo, has was at Tinian, and a number of the other bloody landings that were part of the "island hopping" campaign that lead to Japan. He never talked much about his war time experiences, but the book gave me some insight to what is might have been like for a 19 year old kid serving in the Pacific. It was a great, and emotional, read.
