My PC monitor did this three years ago as I was doing some email. BANG!, crackle, suddenly shrunken, dark, flaky image on-screen, and a plume of black smoke coming out the top grille. No flames, but it took a week for the stink to leave the room. Nothing like the aroma of burning insulation!
