Even though I agree the price is out of line, I just didn't read taking offense into his first reply. I think if you had said "Sorry you can't consider a lower price. As a collector, I think you won't find any takers at the price you are asking, but good luck anyway!", this whole exchange might not have gone so sour (and not accomplished anything, by the way). And after he found out you were right, he might reconsider your offer instead of slamming the door.
