I have also noticed this difference with the CTC-38's themselves too...the ones with the "RCA Victor" logo seem to always use the small control panel door under the speaker, while the block letter "RCA" logo models use the pull out control panel where the speaker tilts out
or have the controls behind a flap next to the tuning knobs.
