Ah, yes, the ol' SF-series chassis... Sounds like you've got one of the later versions of that set with the click-stop UHF knob that's much bigger than the VHF knob. As you say, those sets were pretty mediocre, even compared with other 12" B&W TVs, but they seem to be fairly robust, and they can be kinda fun and interesting anyway, so enjoy! I suspect the SF-chassis hybrid sets ended up being GE's last tube TVs except for the all-tube PortaColor.
