I've seen all three of the new episodes on Sci-Fi (new ep. this Friday) and they are all very good. They maintain the "feel" of the original series while having a modern beat to them. A few times when a scene would start, I swear I was watching a Tom Baker original....very subtle.
Obviously the biggest improvement is in the effects dept. They are rather good now and very believable. The stories, while modern, still have a campiness to them. But that is what makes Doctor Who what it is, IMO.
I really like the new doctor. I liked his work as the baddie from "Gone is 60 seconds" and "28 days later". I think he brings a great synergy of curiosity, cluelessness, brilliance and heroism all in one. But don't get too used to him. They are already filming season two and there is a new doctor....David Tennant (kinda looks like Ryan Seacrest).

I hope he is as good as Mr. Eccleston.
His sidekick, Rose (Billie Piper) is easy on the eyes but a little too hesitant at times for me. Bring back a Leela type with lots of gusto....that would be great.
But, as always, Tom Baker will always be THE Doctor in my mind. "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" is my favorite episode....Brilliant.
