Goldstar (now LG) was synonymous with junk in the 80's and most of the 90's, but I hate to admit that they seem to be making some good products now. I'm not sure who was to blame for Zenith's problems in the 90's. It's easy to blame LG, but the bad CRTs came from Zenith's Chicago plant, not a foreign plant.
Consider yourself very lucky with that mid 90's Zenith. Very few of them lasted this long.
