Are you sure it's not by the design of the bean counters? Many electronics carry a 90 day warrantys or maybe even a year, so why would they buy more costly reliable parts with long lives? Especially lesser brands in today's disposable market where you pitch it and buy a new one.
Think about it; How many of use have ever paid or had warranty work done on a VCR, DVD player or motherboard? Labor costs exceed the value of the replacement piece!
I'm not saying this is the case, but I sure wouldn't be surprised if it were part of the equation.
