Zenith's were always well built. I can't recall a Zenith tube chassis that wasn't.
We used to sell Zenith alongside RCA back in the 60s. The Zenith was always more reliable, and far more reliable around 1968 when my dad and older brother used to change flybacks in new RCA TVs. I also recall a UHF tube that wasn't wired into the tuner of a brand new RCA... The engineering was there, but the QC was intermittent. The printed circuits however were never a problem.
But, when dad had some interested in a Zenith, he always made sure there were no RCAs running...
