The chassis you're thinking of are the CTC22,36, the earlier hybrids. The 22 used the damper diode, where the 36 used a 6 volt damper tube with the heater working off the transformer that furnished the heater voltage for the CRT. I also remember the HV regulator tube in the chassis.
The CTC51,53 used 450ma series tube and not as many 6GH8's. The IF strips and audio circuits are solid state.
