I have a VT 71 that works great except for the same hum you described. When I first finished and tested the set outside of its' cabinet, I couldn't hear any hum. When I put the chassis back in the cabinet there was a great deal of hum. The first problem I found is that the 6SQ7GT I was using had to be changed to a metal 6SQ7 . This first audio tube was picking up hum from the voltage dropping filament capacitors I used to replace the ballast. The tube change helped a great deal but the TV still has some hum. I'm curious as to what chassis type your set with this hum is? Mine is a TS-4C. The only caps I didn't replace were the filament bypass caps that look like micas. I think Banderson mentioned in a post that bad filament bypass caps were a source of hum in the audio and picture. I won't be opening up my set for a few months yet, working on another 14 inch Admiral -run6 or 7 currently.
