Pretty sure Mama's Family was WAY before "practical" (if there IS such a thing..)..flat-panel tv sets larger than about 10 inches..
I say "practical" this way because...most flat-panels sets are NOT really "ready for prime-time" compared to CRT'S. Sure..they are lightweight...but they are NOT reliable and TOTALLY not durable or long-lived. Take ANY flat-panel and take a CRT that are both perfect..put them both in storage for 15 years..and THEN...we shall see which display is still useable. After a short "wake-up' period maybe..the tube WILL come back and be useable, unless it has lost vacuum. That LCD panel after that long? likely it WILL have suffered de-lamination, dust contamination or panel separation from just TIME.
