Unfortunately, yes! The smaller CRT's seemed to be better in this regard.
You set is a little rarer, as it uses a magnetically focused metal CRT. Most of those sets used an electrostatic focus CRT, the 17TP4. They went to the all glass 17HP4, in the later sets.
