There aren't that many people in the "top 1%". And likely a good fraction of them will buy a "good enough" TV set, and not spend the extra money even though they could easily afford it. They'll probably buy the top end RCA but not the DuMont set. Might be that the rich folk won't watch that much TV anyway, instead going to the movies or plays.
But still want a TV around to catch the news.
