And apart from cleaning the controls and the circuit board plug in contacts, and cleaning goo off the CRT anode cap, the sets never given me any trouble.

I've seen that goo in several Chromacolor sets including mine. I thought it might have been an indicator of high hours, but my Chromacolor CRT tested almost new, so who knows.
