Not a big fan of cleaning. Better to diagnose 1st then fix whats needed. This way you do not introduce problems that take a working set (or push over) and turn it into a tough dog.
If I feel the need to clean to ID parts or just want to (against my above statement), I use a very soft brush (girl makeup brush works well) and LIGHTLY dust with a vacuum hose near by to suck up the dislodged dust. That's it, I may gently wipe down wires that have sticky goo on them but only if I need to work on a part that they go to.
PC are very basic sets, not a lot to go wrong besides tubes and controls. Mostly disc caps and being tube based, tolerant of wide variances in part values.
on sets that have markings on the pcb, I will use cotton swaps soaked with a cleaning solution to wipe the pcb clean. takes time but can be done with extreme care. you dont want to break wires or parts from aggressive cleaning.
