One time when CRT tv sets were plentiful at the curb, I took home a 1987 Zenith 13" color tv which was made in Mexico. It was probably the cheapest model they offered in a color set at that time.
Anyway the picture was quite good with a healthy tube. Being that I had many more interesting tv sets, I decided I was going to modify the tv to become one of those 'oscilloscopes' which I would feed off of a stereo amplifer (to make patterns in time with the music).
I did a nice job of it, with toggle switches for each gun color and switchable horizontal only or vertical only response.
But, when the music stopped once I wasn't in the room, and the dot burnt a hole clean through the phosphor. I couldn't believe it had the intensity to do so in a short amount of time. (This was with the toggle switches all on, for a BRIGHT white dot in center). Stupid project
