I serviced the stuff at a rent to own company for years. You can smell the roaches in electronics long before you take them apart. Sickening sweet smell.
I wouldn't take a set to the shop if it isn't showing problems.
I've got a Sony from 1992 that has never had the back off for service, and it runs at least 4 hours every day. I have serviced it, though. The alignment adjustments are done thru the remote on this chassis.
