It is interesting that this thread came up about loctal sockets because I have a favorite Philco five tube radio (model 47-250 I think) that I have not used in a couple of months. I plugged it in to listen to Coast To Coast AM and I get background static like thunder crashes all over the dial. The set uses loctal tubes and I suspect those very narrow pins are not making good contact. I restored it about three years ago and it has been very reliable. I guess it is time for a little routine maintenance. Philco loved using those tubes but I think the regular eight pin octals are a better choice.
