I once worked on one of those and when I was all done I had new problems. I don't recall what the new symptom was but the cause was I screwed up the edge of one of the film cables between the DM and formatter. I just about went nuts finding it, but lucky for me I had a scrap chassis I could steal one from and that fixed it.
