If the solder blob caused the tube to overheat the weakened tube could be responsible for the lack of width. I may not be understanding what happened and way off with what Im saying.
You can take that divider apart and you will see where its failed. Its a ceramic bar with some kind of resistive material in a spiral. There will be burns in the spiral.
