While ordering a new stylus Thursday the man at the hi-fi shop asked what I was driving my speakers with, and I told him a c.1990 Yamaha integrated A/V amp. Expecting a less than enthusiastic reply, he said at least it was made in Japan and started bemoaning the fact that most all of the new equipment is produced in China - even the high-end stuff. Strange when the salesman at the high-end audiophile shop admits he personally is running an old H-K Citation amp at home, and that buying a 20-year-old NAD receiver and having it serviced is a better deal than buying what's sitting on the shelves.
