Wish I could tell you what that bezel should look like....I know on their Synchrophase models, the bezels were given a very thin plating, which is almost always buffed off of them. It's my understanding that Grebe had their own plating facilities, so they were likely still using them when your set was made. To me, it looks like copper is starting to show through (which it already did when you bought it), possibly indicating that the plating has been buffed off in those areas. I would just leave it as you did, cleaned up, but not buffed out.
