The only time I ever used "make offer" was when I had either no idea what something was worth, or just wanted it gone and really didn't care. But I agree, the majority of sellers have "pie in the sky" ideas.
I ought to make a serious offer of $5.00 to this person. $5.00 is seriously all I'd be willing to pay for a broken TV, BSR changer and a Hong Kong/Taiwanese stereo that I couldn't give away locally.
