My mother became ill Thanksgiving Day 2002. She died Thanksgiving Day 2003. That year was the worst year of my life. (Those of you who have had to watch a kind, loving parent die slowly, by degrees, know what I mean). One of the things that provided me with some solace during that period was music. I primarily listen to vinyl, and the only place you can find vinyl nowadays, is at thrift stores, garage sales, etc. Well, one day I was at a thrift store looking for some LP's when I noticed an old Marantz receiver sitting on the floor. It had a sticker on it that said it was non-working. The price was $2.00. I bought it on the spot. Now, here's the thing: up to that moment, I never, never, worked on vintage electronics. I knew nothing about fixing them. Zero. Zip. Nada. To this day, I still don't know what possessed me to buy the thing. Nevertheless, I took it home, and began to dismantle it. I took it completely apart. Then I put it back together. Guess what, it still didn't work. But....... BUT......while I was in the process of dismantling it and putting it back together, It took my mind completely off the misery my mother was in. It was therapeutic. After she passed away, dismantling and reassembling vintage electronic equipment was no longer therapeutic, it became a fun hobby, a hobby I enjoy to this very day. Oh, by the way, I have figured out how to make them work. Probably the strangest post you'll read on this thread. But heck, you asked.........
