The channel knobs on the early vs. late VT-71s are different. The early has the outer ring with 6 positions (chs 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12) and a small center knob for tuning between the upper & lower channels at each click, whereas the late VT-71 has ch. 2-13 clicked on the outer ring, and no fine tuning knob. Other later versions (incl VT-73?) also had dull gold plastic knobs, with the return of the fine-tuning knob. The last Motorola electrostatic sets with the TS-18 chassis had a totally different style of knobs, with large, clear plastic channel ring and orange knobs with brushed brass inserts.
