Got that right, Tom. (I'm also Tom.)

Extreme temperature swings and humidity exposure can take it's toll on electrolytics, most resistors, and of course metal, which is perhaps the most important thing to consider with TV sets. The CRT isn't much of a concern unless it's underwater or the pins are totally destroyed somehow. But try and ship one a few states....

As for 'war stories' on storing old TV's:
I had to temporarily make room for some party equipment (beer-pong table and huge stereo/minifridge center, and some sets in the garage had to go up to the attic for awhile. One was the early 70s GE 19" portable tube-color which the eBay set reminded me of. I didn't realize the attic roof had a very slow, small leak however. It was around 2 months before I got back up there. I had no idea there was a leak since the weather was sunny and nice (idiotic, I now realize ) so I decide to plug'er in for some watchin'. Smoke, snapping and of course, no raster. This was one of my better trash-finds, thing hadn't been touched in years by the looks of it. Before the great short-circuit event, all it needed was a small capacitor in the HV supply to get it going. Picture was good enough after some adjustments (greyscale, focus, Vsize, etc) and it cleaned up nice. Too bad I never got some pics up at Audiokarma at that time. I was ashamed to bring it up on here until now, haha.

Keep them war-stories going guys.
