Most digital receivers can probably tolerate a carrier frequency error of up to +/- 100 kHz or so.
This should be a fun experiment.
I don't know how flat the response is of these old converters, but if happens to have a *very* strong tilt, that could cause problems also. Also, the thought occurs that you should be sure the 'lytics are good so the power supply is stable and not possibly causing AM or FM hum.
