I had a Pioneer
VP-1000 that I bought used in the early 90's, I could rent discs at that time and actually watched a lot of films on it but it was glitchy to say the least, I missed the end of several movies because it would skip so bad it was unwatchable.
I wish I'd kept it but unfortunately I tore it apart to play with the laser which was self contained with it's own power supply, you could throw a red dot over 100 feet with the thing in broad daylight!!
Luckily I never put my eye out with it.
